This piece (“ it's not really fine tho, is it? “) explores the experience of become hyper-aware, of self in response to personal and worldy affairs and atrocities. The work aims to highlight our ability to deny our true experiences and feelings - the classic, “I’m fine“.

Have you ever noticed there is a look, a glance, as if to say, which of us is going to be brave enough to admit things are actually not fine, trust that there is connection and relatability behind the vulnerability of honesty?

This intense feeling is all too relevant through grief, in wanting to simply answer enquiries into my wellbeing with the simplest and least exposing response, when really I wanted an 8 hour conversation about how difficult every day is.

I heard somewhere once that ‘fine‘ is an acronym for: “F**ked up, Insecure, Neurotic and Emotional “ , and while this work is mostly self-indulgent, it is fed by the fact that we could achieve and appreciate conversation and connection, by confronting our realities and acknowledging that while things are fine most of the time, sometimes they really are not, and we could learn to be more prepared for that reality.
